The Story Behind a Linen Christening Robe and Bonnet
This archive story is about a linen christening set I designed for LinenMe, drawing on a traditional Lithuanian robe once made by my grandmother. It records the inspiration and original design; availability should be checked with LinenMe rather than inferred from this old post.
A family craft tradition
My grandmother loved crafts and worked with the materials around her. Her early twentieth-century Lithuanian design inspired me to make a christening robe in linen rather than the silk or synthetic fabrics I often saw in shops.

The robe, bonnet and shoes
The original set combined a hemstitched linen robe, matching bonnet and small baby shoes. It was described in white and ivory, with made-to-order sizing and optional embroidery, pleats or initials. Those details describe the design at the time this article was written; they are not a current offer.
Choosing fabric for a keepsake garment
For a similar sewing project, consider the hand, weight and care instructions of the fabric before cutting. A soft, light linen clothing fabric may suit a carefully fitted ceremonial garment; request fabric samples if you need to compare drape and texture. LinenMe remains our sister brand for finished linen textiles.
