6 Everyday Clothes We Can't Live Without
Are there certain things in your wardrobe that you find yourself reaching for over again? Clothes that either look great or make you feel great, or if you are lucky, both? We've written before about cultivating a capsule wardrobe, getting rid of things that you never wear and instead creating a small collection of pieces that work well together for work and for play. But even with a pared-back amount of clothes there are still some trusty everyday clothes (and accessories) that we just keep coming back to.
Here's what we love wearing, on rotation, pretty much most of the time:
Converse All-Stars
Ok, there's nothing new or super on-trend about a good ol' pair of Chucks, but they are still an essential part of our wardrobe. They look great with everything from jeans, shorts, midi-skirts and overalls, and strike the right balance between comfort and cool. We are currently loving a high-top version, but you will always find some kind of All-Stars near the top of our shoe basket.
Linen Shirt Dress
We've said it before and we'll say it again, a gorgeous linen shirt dress is a wardrobe saviour. Great for layering when the weather is iffy (hello, Britain), a shirt dress is something you can simply pull on and you're good to go. For work you can dress it up with a neat blazer or cardigan, and in summer you can roll up the sleeves and pair with some strappy sandals and a straw tote. And the beauty of linen is that not only will it keep you cool and comfortable, it also doesn't need ironing, thanks to its charming creases. Double bonus.
Lipstick
Whilst we tend to be low-maintenance when it comes to make-up and morning routines, a slick of lipstick is a brilliant way to pull together any outfit. We carry this one round everywhere. It's the perfect amount of matte and moisturiser, so doesn't flake or slide off, and the pigment is vivid and long-lasting. We love the pinky-red Dominate, but there are lots of pretty colours to choose from. This can lift an everyday collection of clothes (jeans and a t-shirt, say) into something more striking and individual, without looking like you've tried too hard.
Oversized cardigan
This is such a useful item. Wear it over a short-sleeved t-shirt or with a lightweight merino wool sweater, over a jumpsuit or with a skirt. Truly versatile and always useful, and the oversized cut gives it a laid-back feel without too much bulk. This one is lovely.
Linen robe
Most mornings are busy, but on weekends and holidays it's lovely to have a slower breakfast. A linen robe is great for covering up whilst also looking chic, and means you can prepare scrambled eggs for houseguests, or cuddle up with the kids with a book on the sofa without worrying about what's underneath. After a long day, easing into a candlelit bath and wrapping yourself in a soft, luxurious robe is the perfect way to unwind and let the day's worries slip away. Essential not only in terms of clothing, but also scores high on the list of simple things that make us feel good.
High-waisted jeans
It was hard to let go of our attachment to skinny jeans, but since discovering straight-legged high-waisted jeans we haven't looked back. Comfortable yet stylish, with a nod to retro looks without being as obvious as flares, we wear ours at least twice a week. Sometimes we wear them with a shirt for a more polished look, and other times with a simple white t-shirt and a slick of lippy.
